Have you been searching for a procedure that targets and has proven studies to reduce and improve cellulite? While there are a number of creams, massage techniques, and surgical options with downtime, none of these are equivocal to what Cellfina has to offer. For years there have been solutions that claim to fix cellulite, but they never addresses the root cause in an office procedure with limited downtime. About 85% of people are hindered by some degree of cellulite regardless of weight and fitness, but now there is a new, minimally invasive treatment for long-term smoothing of cellulite called Cellfina. Cellfina is the first device to be FDA approved for long-term improvement of cellulite for at least a year . Cellfina combines a proven approach known as submission with innovative technology to treat the structural causes of cellulite resulting in a smooth and healthy look. Cellfina has taken the typical surgical procedure known as subcision, and has automated the process in order to eliminate the guesswork and risks associated with subscision. Since Cellfina works mechanically, there are no lasers, heat, sound, or radio waves associated with it, just pure mechanics. While studies have been studied out to a year of improvement, some of the studies have shown results up to three years!
What to expect from the Cellfina procedure
Wilmington Dermatology Center will take before pictures of the desired areas of treatment in order to track results over the treatment period. On average, most patients have a cluster of 15-20 dimples on their thighs and buttocks, which will be individually marked with a circle. We take extensive measures to ensure that the treatment area is cleansed before an injectible anesthetic (Lidocaine) is put into each marked circle for treatment. The Cellfina system then precisely treats the connective bands that create the dimpling by encouraging them to fray and then finally fully release, similar to a rubber band under tension. Once released the treated skin bounces back to smooth itself out, with results seen in as little as three days post procedure. The procedure only takes about an hour to perform, treating about 25 dimples.
There is very minimal bruising and hardly any downtime associated with the procedure. In the studies, patients were typically fine with Tylenol and went back to their everyday activities almost immediately. The most common side effects reported were soreness to the touch and bruising which improved quickly with time.

History of Cellfina
The testing for Cellfina’s FDA approval was pioneered in Boston where the clinical trials for FDA approval were held. Cellfina has been approved for long-term cellulite improvement lasting up to one-year, although studies have shown improvements lasting up to three years. It is an excellent long-term procedure because unlike many other solutions, Cellfina actually addresses the root cause of cellulite. It is the only device based treatment with two years of FDA trial based satisfaction data.
The results from a Cellfina treatment are usually seen within 3-4 days of the procedure (results may vary) and there has been a 96% patient satisfaction studied out to two years. While the FDA approval is for one year, improvements have been noted up to three years time. Results are seen after just a single treatment lasting about an hour depending on treatment area size. Patients have been able to resume normal activity almost immediately There have been no studied side-effects following the procedure, but patients can expect some soreness and possible bruising at the treatment site for a short period of time.
