July Glow-Up: Boost Collagen Naturally with Sculptra & Radiesse — Plus Big Savings All Month Long!
Understanding Fillers vs. Botox: What’s Right for You?
When it comes to facial rejuvenation and anti-aging treatments, the two most talked-about options are dermal fillers and neuromodulators like Botox or Dysport. While they often get lumped together in conversation, they serve different purposes—and understanding those differences is key to choosing the right treatment for your goals.
Dermal Fillers vs. Neuromodulators: What’s the Difference?
Neuromodulators like Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin work by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles—think forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines between the eyebrows. These are great for smoothing expression lines caused by muscle movement.
Dermal fillers, on the other hand, are used to restore volume, enhance facial contours, and improve skin quality. Common treatment areas include:
- Cheeks and midface
- Nasolabial folds (smile lines)
- Jawline and chin
- Lips and perioral lines
- Hands and temples
Not All Fillers Are the Same: Traditional vs. Biostimulatory
At Wilmington Dermatology Center, we offer a wide range of traditional hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers as well as biostimulatory fillers like Radiesse and Sculptra. Here’s how they differ:
Traditional HA Fillers:
- Provide instant volume and results
- Smooth out wrinkles and fine lines
- Results typically last 6–12 months
- Can be reversed if needed
Biostimulatory Fillers:
- Encourage collagen and HA production by your own body
- Gradual improvement over time with longer-lasting effects
- Provide natural, subtle rejuvenation
- Often used for deeper volume loss and skin laxity
With biostimulatory fillers, your body becomes part of the process—stimulating long-term improvement in skin texture, firmness, and volume.
