What are Restylane® Silk Lip Injections?

Restylane® Silk is a clear gel filler that can be used to provide natural-looking lip volume, as well as treat fine lines around the mouth. Silk uses the same hyaluronic acid (HA) as similar injectables but with smaller, thinner particles that allow us to place it more superficially for very fine lines and detailed work.

HA is a naturally occurring substance in skin and lips that is lost with time, and Restylane® Silk subtly replaces this HA for natural results. It’s a dynamic, non-surgical treatment to get fuller lips and target finer lines and wrinkles around the mouth with minimal downtime and up to nine months of improvement.

What is the History of Restylane® Silk?

Restylane® was first approved for use in the US by the FDA in 2003, and developer Galderma has continued to grow the line with excellent tailored solutions like Restylane® Silk, which uses finer particles for natural-looking detail work.

How Do Restylane® Silk Injections Work?

All injectable treatments start with a complimentary consultation, where we’ll examine your target areas, discuss your aesthetic goals, and create a fully personalized treatment plan.

Prior to Treatment

We apply a topical, lidocaine-based cream to numb the areas being treated. After waiting 10 to 15 minutes for it to take effect, we fully cleanse and prep the target areas.

During Treatment

Restylane® Silk lip injections are applied to the target areas. The lidocaine cream, as well as the lidocaine in the Silk itself, should make sure you feel only a pinch and some pressure. This process generally takes 30 to 40 minutes, depending on how many injections are needed. For certain cases, we can use a cannula, a blunt-tipped needle that allows us to minimize injections and potential for bruising.

After Treatment & Results

While most injectables have less swelling with ice, Restylane® Silk actually swells more with cold compresses, so aftercare is minimal. There can be swelling and potentially bruising, but this should subside within a week. Full correction may take a week, but results are immediate and will continue for six to nine months after treatment.

Am I a Candidate for Restylane® Silk for Lip Lines?

Restylane® Silk is an excellent non-surgical option for greater lip volume and smoother skin around the mouth for men and women alike.

There are a variety of HA products targeted at the face and lips; it’s about picking the right one for your needs. Restylane® Silk offers subtle and natural volume for the lips and refinement of lines around the mouth and forehead.

Can I get Restylane® Silk Lip Injections the day before a big event?

You may experience downtime from Restylane® Silk lip injections, including swelling and bruising for up to a week, so please plan for this possibility.

Do Restylane® Silk Injections hurt?

We apply topical numbing cream, and the injections themselves carry the same anesthetic. While sensation varies by treatment area, most people only experience an easily tolerated pinch and pressure.

How does Restylane® Silk treat my lips and wrinkles?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) exists in your skin normally, but is lost as you age. Restylane® Silk replenishes this HA to rebuild volume and fullness to lips and specific wrinkles for subtle, natural results.

Does it really matter who does my Restylane® Silk Lip Injections?

As with all injectables, Restylane® Silk is a powerful tool that needs an experienced hand for the best, most natural results. Using an experienced, trained medical provider who fully understands facial anatomy, like our own Dr. Rosalyn George, is crucial for getting optimal outcomes and preventing any complications.

Can I get Restylane® Silk Injections done the same day as other injectables?

Yes, you can have Restylane® Silk injections alongside other injectables like BOTOX®, Dysport®, and Restylane® Defyne or Refyne.

If you are getting laser treatment in the target areas, let us know; we prefer to provide fillers after laser treatment.

How Much Do Restylane® Silk Lip Injections Cost?

Restylane® Silk treatment cost is based on how many syringes are used for the procedure. The number varies depending on the areas being treated. You will receive treatment plan cost at your free consultation.

What happens if I need more correction, or I didn’t achieve the results I’d anticipated?

Patient satisfaction and optimal outcomes are important to all of us at Wilmington Dermatology Center. We’ll evaluate your outcomes and adjust treatment, if it’s necessary, at a two-week follow-up appointment.
