What Is Fraxel® Skin Treatment?

What Is Fraxel® Skin Treatment?

The Fraxel® DUAL is a non-invasive, double-laser system that creates controlled, microscopic columns in the skin. This has two revolutionary effects: First, it stimulates the body’s natural healing processes and collagen production, promoting the growth of healthy tissue. Second, its different settings can treat blemishes and signs of aging, whether surface-level or skin-deep, including:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Sun damage, sunspots, age spots, and other pigmented lesions
  • Scarring, including from acne
  • Irregular texture
  • Melasma (also known as chloasma, or the “mask of pregnancy”)

Fraxel® DUAL’s two lasers allow our professional aestheticians to customize our care to your specific concerns and truly rejuvenate your skin. And, because the lasers treat only a fraction of the skin at a time, Fraxel® skin treatment is safe and offers rapid, significant results with minimal downtime.

What is the History of Fraxel® Laser Skin Care?

The Fraxel® DUAL laser is the first and only system of its kind to obtain FDA approval for treating wrinkles, fine lines, irregular texture, and pigmented lesions — all with an excellent safety profile. Previously, lasers used for these skin concerns were always “ablative,” meaning they vaporize all tissue and take longer to heal. The non-ablative Fraxel® DUAL is safer and offers faster results and recovery.

Both its 1550 and 1927 laser have been clinically tested with proven results, during over half a million procedures completed in over 80 countries. Fraxel® skin treatment has been used over 800,000 times.

Why Receive Fraxel Skin Treatment at Wilmington Dermatology Center?

How Does the Fraxel® DUAL Laser Work?

All treatments at Wilmington Dermatology Center begin with a complimentary consultation. We’ll carefully examine your skin quality, any blemishes, and all signs of aging related to your skincare goals before developing your personalized treatment plan.

Fraxel® Dual is a non-ablative laser that penetrates the dermis creating the microscopic laser column. This stimulates and hastens the body’s natural healing process, making healthy tissue grow and multiply while the damaged tissue moves towards the epidermis. Since the laser treats only a fraction of the tissue at a time, the surrounding tissue is left intact, which promotes rapid healing.

Prior to Treatment

Prior to treatment, you must stop using retinols, glycolic and salicylic acids, and minimize sun exposure.

On the day of your Fraxel® DUAL laser appointment, we’ll take pictures to track results over the course of the treatment period. Then, we’ll thoroughly cleanse the treatment area and apply a topical anesthetic. We’ll let it set for one hour, then cleanse your skin once again to prepare for treatment.

During Treatment

Fraxel® DUAL skin treatment will begin as we apply the laser to the treatment area, which should be completely painless with the anesthetic. This can take as little as 20 minutes to complete, but we ask that you expect a two-hour appointment for all aspects of treatment, including numbing. We generally recommend four to six separate treatments to achieve desired results, depending on your goals.

After Treatment & Results

Depending on the aggressiveness of treatment, you may experience initial redness or swelling. You’ll be provided a cooling agent and can expect side-effects to subside within three to seven days. Patients are provided Dr. George’s contact information in case any concerns arise outside normal business hours.

Results are both immediate and progressive. You will notice softer, more even, and more youthful skin almost immediately after treatment, and experience further improvement over the next three to six months as skin heals and rejuvenates. Results can last many years depending on your age, skin condition, and skin care routine.

Am I a Candidate for Fraxel® Glowing Skin?

Fraxel® DUAL laser skin care is ideal for men and women who seek to rejuvenate their skin and minimize or eliminate certain blemishes and signs of aging, including pigmentation and wrinkles — all without the downtime of a surgical procedure. It can be customized to nearly any skin type, lifestyle, or beauty regimen. We can determine how to personalize your Fraxel® skin treatment during a free consultation.

Fraxel® DUAL Laser Frequently Asked Questions

How long will each visit last?

While Fraxel® skin treatment can take only 20 minutes, depending on the size, location, and condition of the treatment area, we ask that you reserve two hours for the appointment.

How many treatments will I need?

Depending on your skin quality, goals, and lifestyle, your treatment plan will generally include four to six appointments. More aggressive plans may only take one visit, while cautious plans may take several.

What does the treatment feel like?

With our topical anesthetic and post-treatment cooling agent, the most you should experience is an increased heat sensation. We may recommend other medications during your free consultation.

What will happen after the treatment?

Fraxel® DUAL’s glow-up and rejuvenation rely on your body’s natural healing processes, meaning results will appear as your body heals. You can expect visible results in as little as one to three weeks, with ongoing improvement over three to six months.

How is the Fraxel® DUAL laser different from other laser skin rejuvenation procedures?

Fraxel® DUAL delivers the potency of ablative treatments, which vaporize the skin, with the gentle safety of non-ablative lasers, which create controlled, microscopic columns in the skin and leave the tissue around it intact. This results in the same dramatic results as an ablative procedure with less downtime.

How long will the positive effects of Fraxel® DUAL last?

Depending on your skin condition, the goals of treatment, and your skin care, results can last for years!

What are expected side effects of Fraxel® DUAL?

There is some downtime, generally with swelling and redness that lasts three to seven days depending on the aggressiveness of treatment. Rarer side effects include a bronzed look, mild itching, and dryness that also dissipate. We’ll provide a full list of instructions on care and expectations after treatment.

What areas of the skin can be treated?

The FDA has approved the use of Fraxel® DUAL both on and off the face, so we can customize your personal treatment to your specific problem area and goals.

How far in between do the Fraxel® DUAL treatments have to be?

We recommend four to six weeks in between individual sessions to allow for full healing time.

How Much Does Fraxel® Skin Treatment Cost?

Fraxel® DUAL laser skin care pricing varies depending on the treatment area and number of treatments needed. We’ll provide an estimate during your free consultation. Some standard pricing options are:

  • Hands: $580
  • Neck: $990
  • Chest: $1,115
  • Full Face: $1,300
  • Full Face + Neck: $1,850

Treatment package pricing is available to offset the total cost, with NO package commitments!
