What chemical peel should I choose?

What chemical peel should I choose?

Since the weather is officially Fall weather, it’s that time of year where we start thinking about what we can do to reverse summer sun damage to provide younger, smoother, softer skin for yourself. One way to do that are chemical peels!

Chemical peels have been around for some time, but for those who are unfamiliar, a chemical peel is a mixture of certain acids used to exfoliate from the skin surface and reveal fresh new skin. By helping the skin shed some layers, these peels help improve acne, acne scars, complexion, lighten dark spots and discoloration from sun damage. Chemical peels can also reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Basically, chemical peels can be extremely beneficial to creating refreshed, healthier skin, but the hard part will be determining what type of chemical peel is best for you. As we always mention, we’re here for you to help determine the type of treatment that is best for youand choosing the right chemical peel is no exception!

Most chemical peels are rated as being Superficial (light peel) or medium chemical peel.

Superficial Chemical Peels: These are mild acids that give a quick exfoliation with little downtime. They are the perfect peel to improve some discoloration and dullness before an event and can be done in the middle of a work day because it doesn’t inflame the skin. A couple of examples of superficial peels that we carry in the office are salicylic acid peels, Skinmedica illuminize, and the Apeele light.

Medium/Deeper Chemical Peels: These penetrate the skin deeper and usually require more downtime than a light chemical peel. We usually say about 1-2 weeks to fully heal. Common acids used to achieve deeper peels are Glycolic and Trichloracetic Acid (TCA). These deeper peels are great for fine lines/wrinkles, sun damage, and facial discoloration like melasma. Our in-office medium peels include our Apeele Medium and Forte, TCA chemical peels applied only by Dr. Rosalyn George, Skinceuticals Advanced Corrective Peel, and our Skinmedica Vitalize and Revitalize peels.

With most chemical peel applications you can expect for some stinging and burning. Typically the peeling process doesn’t start until 2-days after the peel application. One of the hardest things about chemical peels is not peeling the skin off yourself, but letting it naturally sloth off, so you don’t irritate your skin while it is in the healing process.

Our chemical peel pricing ranges from $105-$275 depending on the strength of the peel itself. Call or email our office to setup your complimentary consultation, or appointment today! 910-256-4350.
