Collagen PIN Micro-Needling Treatment in Wilmington, NC

As we age, our skin’s ability to regenerate new skin cells and collagen diminishes, contributing to aging factors such as scarring, pigmentation, fine lines, and overall pore size and texture. At Wilmington Dermatology Center, Rosalyn George, M.D., leads our skilled team of physician assistants and aesthetic professionals in providing healthier, rejuvenated skin using advanced Collagen PIN micro-needling treatment.

What Is the Collagen PIN Facial Treatment?

Micro-needling is a method of introducing a controlled wound into the skin, which triggers a release of natural growth factors, new collagen, and elastin, to promote healthier, refreshed skin.

Collagen PIN micro-needling (percutaneous induction needling) is an innovation that causes much less damage to the epidermis than dermal rolling and other ablative treatments. Collagen PIN helps to protect the new skin cell growth providing for quicker healing and a higher success rate. Collagen PIN can be used to treat fine lines, acne scars, stretch marks, and to improve skin’s overall appearance.

What is the History of Collagen PIN Micro-Needling Treatment?

Prior to Collagen PIN, micro-needling was completed with dermal rollers. While effective, these were one-size-fits-all treatments with fixed needle and penetration length, which wasn’t equally effective in all places — or for every patient. Collagen PIN uses adjustable needle depth to customize different areas of your skin, meaning it can treat even sensitive areas such as around the eyes.

How Does the Collagen PIN Micro-Needling Facial Procedure Work?

Collagen PIN has an adjustable needle depth that allows your Wilmington Dermatology skincare provider to vary the depth of penetration throughout the entire treatment so that we can properly address the specific needs of areas such as thinner skin on your lower eyelids, crow’s feet, and forehead. Additionally, where the tissue is thicker in other areas like the upper lip, cheeks (due to fat pads), neck, and décolletage, the necessary adjustments can easily be made.

Prior to Treatment

At the start of your appointment, your skin is cleansed, and a topical anesthetic is applied. After it sets for 20 to 30 minutes, your skin is cleansed. We then apply a topical serum, generally hyaluronic acid (HA), to allow the Collagen PIN cartridge to glide smoothly across the skin. We’ll also attach sterile needles to the cartridge, set the appropriate needle depth, and determine the number of passes.

During Treatment

The Collagen PIN is slid across the treatment area, creating thousands of microscopic channels to promote skin repair and collagen production. This also delivers the hyaluronic acid — a natural building-block of healthy new skin that is usually lost over time — deep into the skin. Depending on your skin and goals, we may also apply other topical serums to enhance the effects of treatment.

After Treatment & Results

Results begin at once and progress from there. Many patients see results after the first visit, although three to six treatments may be recommended based on the individual’s treatment plan. As part of your first treatment, you’ll be provided a take-home kit of skincare products that will help protect your results.

Collagen PIN Micro-Needling Frequently Asked Questions

How many treatments will I need?

While it’s possible to see results after a single treatment, we generally recommend a series of three to six Collagen PIN treatments, depending on your treatment area or goals. More stubborn areas may require six or more treatments. Visits should be spaced about four weeks apart from each other. Our team can help you plan a treatment schedule.

How long will it take for me to see results?

Many patients see results after the first Collagen PIN treatment, with more dramatic changes occurring one to two weeks after treatment. Results will vary slightly by individual.

How long will my Collagen PIN results last?

The skin will continue to produce new collagen and elastin for up to a year after your last treatment, but results can last longer with a proper skin care regimen and a series of treatments.

Will the Collagen PIN treatment hurt?

We apply a topical numbing agent that should prevent you from feeling much of anything during treatment — our patients typically rank the pain as a two out of ten at worst.

How will I look after my Collagen PIN treatment?

Collagen PIN is largely considered a no-downtime treatment; you may have slightly pink or red skin immediately following treatment, but this should fade within 24 hours. We’ll also recommend skin care products for your unique skin that will both minimize symptoms and enhance your outcomes.

Can I use makeup after my Collagen PIN treatment?

Because micro-needling creates micro-channels in the skin, makeup used post-procedure should be mineral based. We can provide you with the proper products to use post-treatment.

How Much Do Collagen PIN Micro-Needling Treatments Cost?

Collagen PIN pricing varies depending on the primary treatment area and other considerations, such as the best and safest topical products to use for various parts of the body. A general treatment would include one of the following areas such as a face, décolleté, back, or specific scar revision area. We can discuss package pricing options during your free consultation.

  • $425/overall treatment area (includes required post-procedure product)
  • $375/overall treatment area (excludes post-procedure product – an option if you still have product from a prior treatment)
