Two newer neuromodulators, Relfydess and Boey are drawing attention for their different approaches to treatment timing. At Wilmington Dermatology Center, we’re following these developments closely to help our patients understand what future options could offer.

As of September 2026, neither treatment is FDA-approved or available at WDC. Both have received approvals in other markets, but their U.S. applications require further regulatory action.

What Are Neuromodulators?

In cosmetic dermatology, neuromodulators are injectable treatments that temporarily relax targeted muscles to soften expression-related wrinkles. These are the lines associated with movements such as frowning, smiling, and squinting.

Treatment focuses on selected muscles, with the goal of softening unwanted lines while maintaining natural facial expression.

BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® are familiar examples. Relfydess and Boey could eventually expand the choices available to U.S. patients.

What Is Relfydess?

Relfydess, also known as relabotulinumtoxinA, is a botulinum toxin type A treatment developed by Galderma. It has been studied for the temporary improvement of moderate-to-severe frown lines between the eyebrows and crow’s feet around the eyes.

One distinguishing feature is its ready-to-use liquid formulation, which does not require reconstitution before injection. For patients interested in maintaining results over a longer period, those findings are worth following. 

However, “up to six months” does not mean everyone will experience the same degree of wrinkle improvement for that entire time. Clinical studies measured different levels of response, and individual results varied. Relfydess trial results.

What Is Boey?

Boey, also known as trenibotulinumtoxinE, is a neuromodulator from Allergan Aesthetics, the makers of BOTOX Cosmetic. It uses botulinum toxin type E and has been developed to temporarily improve moderate-to-severe frown lines between the eyebrows.

Its shorter duration is a defining feature. In clinical studies, effects were observed as early as eight hours, with results typically wearing off within approximately two to three weeks. Allergan Aesthetics’ Boey announcement.

That shorter timeframe may appeal to people who are curious about injectables but hesitant about results that last for several months. If approved in the United States, Boey could offer an introduction to how wrinkle-relaxing treatment looks and feels.

A shorter treatment experience would not guarantee identical results from a different product later. Your provider would still need to evaluate your anatomy, goals, and suitability for each treatment.

The most noticeable distinction is their reported duration of effect.

Does Relfydess last six months for everyone?
