What are good options for treating acne scarring?

What are good options for treating acne scarring?  Like many things in the world of Dermatology, many treatment options have expanded over the years, and acne scarring treatment options have done just that! While step one is always to first get the acne under control, we have a number of things we can do to treat the scarring that may occur from the inflammatory process of acne.

We have three main options for treating acne scarring:

  1. Collagen PIN Micro-needling: Automated Micro-Needling (also known as Percutaneous Collagen Induction Therapy or PCIT) is a new innovation in aesthetic medicine. During this procedure, tiny needles are used to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to produce collagen and elastin. We combine this treatment with a topical hyaluronic acid serum which is a building block for healthy new skin.
  2. Infini: Another treatment option for acne scarring is our Infini device that combines micro-needling with radio frequency technology treatment. The INFINI creates thousands of targeted coagulations zones under the skin using a combination of micro needles and radio frequency to deliver precise heat, rather than laser light, to the treated area. The discrete coagulative injury zones in the dermis spare the epidermis. The natural healing process, following the skin rejuvenation treatment, replaces the damaged zones with new collagen and elastin resulting in tighter, smoother skin. Most of the device technology requires multiple treatments to see optimal results.
  3. Lastly, Bellafill: Bellafill is the one and only dermal filler proven safe and lasting up to five years. Bellafill is a polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) collagen filler. The collagen immediately adds volume to the skin to lift acne-scarring areas. The PMMA microspheres create a matrix that supports your body’s own collagen production. This is an excellent and long-lasting solution. Since this is collagen filler, it does require an allergy skin test 4 weeks prior to treatment to ensure no adverse reaction.

Like a lot of things in dermatology, we will combine a needling device with the Bellafill filler to get a smoothe and natural final result. We also have complimentary consults if you would like to schedule an appointment and learn more about any of these treatments!
