Pain free Laser Hair removal and why now is a great time to treat
Ditch the razor! Laser hair removal has been around for some time, but the improvements in treatment, comfort, and speed have never been as state-of-the art as they are now. This is prime time to get started on your series of laser hair treatments! Ideally you want to be out of the sun, so starting your series now will give you enough time before beach season to complete all of the treatments for optimal results.
In the past, laser hair removal has also been painful, but luckily this is no longer the case — it’s faster and safer than ever at Wilmington Dermatology Center. WDC has the first high-speed Alexandrite laser, DEKA Motus AX/AY, which delivers faster, more efficient energy to destroy unwanted hair painlessly. Safety is a priority, and, with new Moveo technology, it’s now possible for patients with darker skin tones or lighter hair to benefit from pain-free laser hair removal with lower risks of side-effects. This device eliminates trade-offs that come with other laser hair removal options, including other technologies that are highly effective but may be too painful for patients to tolerate comfortably.
It’s so important to do your research before you decide on a device and practice to complete your treatment, which is why we offer complimentary consults to discuss what to expect from the treatment beforehand, with one of our experienced procedure specialists. We will also discuss our simple pricing packages prior to treatment, so there are no unexpected charges incurred throughout the treatment.
What to expect with Laser Hair Removal – Myths and Facts:
Number of treatments required – The number of sessions needed to eliminate hair completely depends on the individual. Since the hair follicle goes through several growth stages, laser hair removal requires around 6 treatments to give you permanent reduction of 50%-90% of the treated hair.
Hair cycles and treatment timing – Since there are 6 hair growth cycles, appointment timing is also a priority in ensuring efficient end-results from laser hair removal. The time in between treatment does vary on the area being treated, but anywhere from 4-8 weeks between appointments is recommended.
What to expect at your visit – On the day of your laser hair removal, we ask that you come to your appointment with the treatment area shaved (not waxed). We’ll place a cooling gel on the treatment area, and then get to work! You’ll feel almost nothing during the treatment, except potentially a little bit of warmth in the area. The treatment time depends on the area we are treating, taking as little as 20-60 minutes for larger areas being treated (full legs, backs).
The need for future touchups – Future maintenance touch-up visits may be required to address hair that has grown for various reasons such as treatment cycle timing, hormones, or medications. Typically we recommend 1-2 touchups a year to maintain results, but this is at your discretion. Touch-up visits can vary in cost, but your individual touch-up costs will be published on your consent form prior to starting your treatments.
