Our world of fillers and non-surgial cosmetic options are constantly coming out with new innovative technology. This has been an amazing thing for those of us not interested in going under the knife, or maybe not quite there yet, but it can also make it very confusing as to what does what for where! Today we’re going to breakdown two of our favorite injectable fillers Voluma™ XC and JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA®.

While their names are similar, and they do have similar technology behind them, these two fillers benefit our aging faces in very different ways.

Where are they used for facial rejuvenation?

Voluma™ XC is used by both men and women today to add instant volume to the apex, apple and hollow of the cheek area, and is clinically proven to last up to two years with very minimal downtime. JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA® is a clear Hyaluronic-based gel injectable filler used today to increase lip fullness and soften the appearance of lines around the mouth. Results are proven to last up to a year and sometimes longer.

What are they made out of?

Both fillers (like most fillers) are a gel-based formulation of hyaluronic acid (a natural substance used to lubricate joints) and lidocaine for comfort. What makes these two filler the most similar is they are the only two fillers developed using Allergan’s proprietary Vycross technology.

What exactly is Vycross technology?

It is formulated with an innovative combination of low and high molecular weight technology, which improves the cross-linking efficiency of HA (Hyaluronic Acid) chains. This more effective cross-linking allows for a lower concentration of HA to be used, which results in less swelling. The Vycross technology delivers an ultra-smooth gel, which results in a natural look and feel, as well as improved duration, which is why these are two of the longer lasting fillers on the market.

So basically, while these two fillers sound very similar, they are used to treat very different portions of the face. We can’t stress enough the importance for you to go to a knowledgeable provider when having these types of procedures done to ensure the correct products are being used in the correct locations, as well as, injecting in the most effective techniques for the area being treated.
