Frequently Asked Questions about Permanent Hair Removal
Some of the most common questions we’re asked about laser hair removal include:
What Makes Motus AX/AY Different?
The three main differences between Motus AX/AY and other laser hair removal technologies is that 1) it’s totally comfortable, 2) it’s quick and effective, and 3) it can be used across all skin types. It’s by far your best laser hair removal option, offering both comfort and faster treatment times to all body surfaces.
This device eliminates trade-offs that come with other laser hair removal options, including other technologies that are highly effective but may be too painful for patients to tolerate comfortably. Motus AX/AY can also be used to treat pigmented lesions, small leg veins, and vascular lesions.
How Long Will My Treatment Take?
The length of your session will vary depending on the size of the area being treated. Typically, treatment takes about 15-20 minutes for smaller areas and up to an hour for larger ones.
What Can I Expect the Day of My Treatment?
On the day of your laser hair removal, we ask that you come to your appointment with the treatment area shaved (not waxed). In the case that there is excess hair in the treatment areas, we will shave and prep the area for you. We’ll place a cooling gel on the treatment area, and then get to work! You’ll feel almost nothing during the treatment, except potentially a little bit of warmth in the area.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
The number of sessions needed to eliminate hair completely depends on the individual. Since the hair follicle goes through a number of growth stages, laser hair removal requires around 5-6 treatments to give you permanent reduction of 50%-90% of the treated hair. Future maintenance touch-up visits may be required to address hair that has grown for various reasons such as treatment cycle timing, hormones, or medications.
When Will I See Results?
You may notice hair reduction after your first treatment, although the full 90% reduction typically takes 5-6 treatments.
Are There Side Effects to Laser Hair Removal?
Side effects may occur after treatment, including itchy skin, pink/redness, and some possible mild swelling of the hair follicle. These side effects rarely last more than two days following the procedure.
What is the Cost of Laser Hair Removal?
We offer very competitive prices for laser hair removal, with a worry-free pay-as-you-go model and the ability to receive your 6th treatment free! Additional touch-up visits may be necessary after your 6th treatment is completed. Touch-up visits can vary in cost, but your individual touch-up costs will be published on your consent form.
When you come to us for your free laser hair removal consultation, we’ll give you an exact cost for your individual treatment plan. We also offer an additional 10% discount for active-duty military.
Can I Go Out in the Sun During Treatment?
Unlike traditional laser hair removal, the Motus AX/AY allows for us to treat tanned skin with little risk.
Does it Matter Who Does My Treatment?
Although there are minimal regulations on who can perform laser hair removal, it’s recommended that this procedure is performed by a trained, experienced professional like Dr. George and our staff at Wilmington Dermatology Center for optimal results.
